Privacy Policy

Effective date: January 1, 2026

Overview

Maclaw Pro ("we", "our", "the software") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Maclaw collects, how it is stored, and how third-party services are used.

The key principle: Maclaw runs entirely on your Mac. No monitoring data is ever sent to our servers.

What Data Maclaw Collects

Maclaw monitors the following on your local machine:

  • Camera access events (which apps access your camera and when)
  • Microphone access events (which apps access your microphone and when)
  • Location service usage (which apps request your location)
  • Network connections and open ports (active connections on your Mac)

This monitoring data is collected and processed locally on your Mac. It is never uploaded to any external server operated by Maclaw.

How Data Is Stored

All monitoring data, alerts, and configuration files are stored locally in the ~/.maclaw directory on your machine. This includes:

  • Alert history (JSON files)
  • Configuration and environment variables
  • Log files
  • Generated security reports

You have full control over this data and can delete it at any time by removing the ~/.maclaw directory or by using the uninstall script.

Third-Party Services

Maclaw optionally integrates with the following third-party services. These integrations are entirely optional and require explicit configuration by the user:

  • Telegram: If you configure a Telegram bot token and chat ID, Maclaw will send alert notifications to your Telegram account. Messages are transmitted via the Telegram Bot API. Maclaw does not store any Telegram conversation data.
  • OpenAI / AI providers: If you configure an API key for the AI chat assistant, your chat messages sent through the dashboard will be processed by the configured AI provider (e.g., OpenAI). Maclaw does not send monitoring data to AI providers — only explicit chat messages you type.

If you do not configure these services, Maclaw operates in dashboard-only mode with no external connections.

Open Source Transparency

Maclaw is open source software. The complete source code is available on GitHub. You can audit the code to verify that no data is sent to external servers without your consent.

Website Analytics

The Maclaw Pro website (maclawpro.com) does not use third-party analytics or tracking services. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties. Since monitoring data never leaves your Mac, there is nothing for us to share.

Children's Privacy

Maclaw is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Maclaw after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
